SeaChange Sets Stage for Video On Demand Wholesaling in Germany
SeaChange Provides VOD Technology for Wholesaling Interactive Services as Part of a Joint Trial in Berlin
ACTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
SeaChange International (NASDAQ: SEAC) today announced it is providing video-on-demand (VOD) television software, middleware and systems as part of a joint trial with On Demand Deutschland, Samsung and Telefonica to wholesale triple-play services to broadband operators in Berlin, Germany.
Under the trial, Telefonica, through its DSL network, is making IP-based value-added services like VOD, broadband Internet access and telephony services available to other operators and service providers to resell to their own customers under their own name.
Tele Columbus, one of the country's largest cable television operators, has initiated this technical trial in order to figure future potential VOD services to be provided to their subscribers not having return capabilities over the standard cable network. The Tele Columbus service will be demonstrated at the SeaChange stand (A47) during ANGA Cable in Cologne, May 27-29.
On Demand Deutschland is providing the VOD content for the trial, including the barker. On Demand Deutschland is a joint venture of On Demand Group and Tele Munchen Gruppe that is working to accelerate the growth of pay-per-view and VOD in Germany and other German-speaking regions.
In the future, teveo GmbH, a Hamburg based company solely founded for this purpose, will develop and market IP-based value-added services running on this platform to ISPs, city carriers and cable network operators.
The customer premises technology is being provided by Samsung, including its DVB-C/IP hybrid set-top box.
