HBO Latin America Group Locks up Secure Content Delivery with Joint Solution from SeaChange And Thomson

Advanced Digital Watermarking Capability Ensures Secure Delivery of Premium Movie Content

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

SeaChange International (NASDAQ: SEAC), one of the leading suppliers to television broadcasters globally, and Thomson (Euronext Paris: 18453; NYSE: TMS), the world leader in digital video, today announced the deployment of an advanced content delivery platform for HBO Latin America Group (HBO LAG), using digital watermarking for enhanced security. HBO LAG is adopting the solution to make feature films available in the video-on-demand services of cable television operators throughout Latin America.

"As easily and efficiently as we can disseminate our content, it is equally important that we can ensure the content's integrity," said Pierre Jaspar, SVP Technology and Operations, HBO LAG. "The combination of SeaChange's delivery solution and Thomson's watermarking technology provides us with the most effective and reliable means of achieving those goals."

Based upon SeaChange's Vodcast Content Delivery System and Thomson's NexGuard(TM) video watermarking solution, the platform enables HBO LAG to securely and cost-effectively transfer file-based movie content faster than real time, from a single origination point in Miami to hundreds of server locations simultaneously. The content is serialized on a per-operator basis, permitting any illicit copies to be traced back to the source of the leak.

Using secure satellite transmission, the Vodcast system integrates NexGuard software at each receiver site, where the MPEG files and streams are invisibly watermarked upon receipt of new content. The watermark data is based on a unique identifier on the catcher device and the process is fully automated, making it impossible to be bypassed at the receiver site.
