SeaChange Establishes Radically Simplified Television Content Workflow

NAB Unveiling for Tapeless Production-to-Playout Workflow; SeaChange and Partners Cinegy, DataDirect Networks Solve Challenges of Preparing and Delivering TV Content for Multiple Consumer Applications

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

This week at NAB2008 SeaChange International (NASDAQ: SEAC) has unveiled a solution that radically simplifies how broadcasters prepare and deliver television programming, and ensures that television can meet the evolving demand for content no matter how audiences are watching. For the first time, SeaChange's Production Workflow Solution takes the guesswork and experimentation out of creating tapeless, mixed file format workflows, giving broadcasters the assurance of a complete production-to-playout solution that is built and backed by a single vendor and professional service organization. Founded on SeaChange's revolutionary MediaClient codecs, customers can apply the workflow to reality television, sports and news production, tape library digitization, and newer opportunities such as broadband video-on-demand.

"Our customers require the ability to be innovative in their programming and accelerate workflows to adapt to the drastic shift in viewing habits, while still keeping operating expenses in check," said Chris West, vice president, broadcast, SeaChange International. "What NAB visitors will see is that SeaChange has solved a typically complex, often piecemeal and unreliable process by employing proven, scalable technologies to ingest and prep virtually any form of content for playout to out any type of stream."

The seamless Production Workflow Solution is book-ended by SeaChange's highly flexible MediaClient ingest and playout software codecs. In between is a combination of high-bandwidth, high-capacity storage and powerful asset management software that enables critical functions such as station-wide browsing and logging, simple desktop editing, and fast collaborative production supporting Avid and Final Cut Pro. The entire solution is supported by SeaChange's global professional services organization, providing broadcasters with a single entity to easily and effectively customize a workflow that addresses their unique needs.

This new production workflow solution is the result of collaboration between Cinegy, SeaChange and DataDirect Networks.

"Cinegy's digital production workflow solution is well known and deployed around the world, covering everything from ingest to archive, editing to playout in SD or HD in multiple formats. This technology will allow a range of organizations to digitize and modernize their production workflow, while reducing ongoing expenditure at the same time," said Daniella Weigner, Managing Director of Cinegy. "The fast flexibility and scalability of the Cinegy solution leads to more efficient TV production, enhanced return on investments and lends greater competitive advantage to operations."

"As the leading data infrastructure provider for broadcasters, DataDirect Networks is the only company that enables broadcast clients to manage thousands of megabit streams concurrently from enterprise and nearline disks using a single platform," said Scott Genereux, Senior Vice President, Sales, Marketing and Support, DataDirect Networks. "We look forward to expanding our partnership with SeaChange and providing the industry-leading intelligent data backbone for this new, highly scalable tapeless playout-to-production workflow being exhibited at NAB2008."

    Core SeaChange workflow components:

-- SeaChange MediaClient Series standard and high definition
codecs powered by Cinegy: Enabling simultaneous ingest of a
wide range of content and formats, and simultaneous creation
of multiple file formats and varying bit rates. Playing out
multiple formats for air, studio, video-on-demand or IPTV
distribution, as well as Windows Media file conversion.

-- DataDirect Networks online storage: Highly scalable up to 1.2
petabytes with an ultra-high 24 GB/s of internal bandwidth for
        true edit-in-place applications.

-- Cinegy Workflow digital asset management software: Enabling
end-to-end collaboration from production to archive including
logging, editing, searching, and browsing, and supporting
newsroom integration and web browser options for remote
        access.

This new workflow addresses how consumers today are viewing their content, not only in high definition and standard definition through terrestrial, cable, satellite and IPTV services on traditional television sets, but also on the web, through video-on-demand and on mobile devices. The means by which that content is produced and delivered to so many platforms has remained largely a web of old technology not-so-seamlessly integrated with myriad new and unproven solutions. SeaChange fulfills operators' current production and playout requirements, while easily scaling to incorporate new formats and distribution methods.

The SeaChange Production workflow is available now to broadcasters worldwide. The company's complete range of proven content storage, streaming and management solutions, including its FML 200 Flash Memory Library, latest Broadcast MediaLibrary/Broadcast MediaClient system and SD/HD software codecs, will be on display during NAB2008 at booth SU12011 through April 17 in Las Vegas.
